Axbridge Saxons

(Cup)

8-1

Yatton were determined not to be on the end of a cup shock as they overwhelmed a gallant Axbridge team. The opening goal came inside 5 minutes as Steve Jarosz followed up a Jake Brown shot to slot home. Almost immediately, the lead was doubled as man of the match and centre half Adam Briscoe scored a screamer from 25 yards which flew past the keeper before he could react.

Yatton's free flowing football was a delight to watch with new signing Chris Abbott along with Jake Brown and Jack Briscoe, pulling the strings in midfield. The lead was trebled half way through the half as Joe Gordon sent Steve Jarosz scampering away to draw the defender and produce a delightful ball for the ever grateful Alec Herrington to score with aplomb. Jarosz and Herrington added further goals as Yatton strolled to a 5-0 interval lead. With the match won, several positional changes were made but this did not stop Yatton from adding a sixth courtesy from a delightful chip from Alec Herrington. Soon after Adam Briscoe scored his second and Yatton's 7th as he deftly headed home.

Jake Brown was re-introduced and within minutes he had added to the goal tally as he shot powerfully home from the edge of the box. Credit must be given to Axbridge as they continued to the end and were rewarded with a consolation goal as he cleverly chipped the keeper from the touchline. Yatton can be pleased with their display although Clevedon Town will provide far sterner opposition next week.

Nailsea United

(League)

5-1

Despite not playing with the fluency of the last couple of weeks, Yatton easily overcame a determined but limited Nailsea team. Within 3 minutes Yatton took the lead as Steve Jarosz benefitted from super play by twin striker Alec Herrington to slot home comfortably. As so often with Yatton, chance after glorious chance went begging although the Nailsea keeper was inspired at times but he was unable to prevent Yatton doubling the lead as Jarosz galloped onto an incisive through ball from Joe Gordon to draw the keeper and score with aplomb on 17 minutes. Shortly before the break Jarosz grabbed his hatrick as he skillfully bent the ball around the keeper from 18 yards. Yatton thought they had increased their lead to 4 moments before half time as the ever impressive Jack Briscoe broke up a Nailsea counter attack to feed Alec Herrington who in turn laid the ball to the industrious Jake Brown to strike the ball home but was denied by a dubious linesman's flag for offside.

Comfortably leading at the break Yatton went into cruise control and took their foot off the gas and Nailsea pulled a goal back with a smart finish. Spurred on by man of the match Tom Jones, Yatton held firm and started to dictate again although at times the effort and application was seriously lacking. That said, further gilt edged chances were missed until Jarosz grabbed his hatrick following a goalmouth scramble. Shortly before full time Alec Herrington well placed penalty beat the impressive goalkeeper to demonstrate the gulf in class between the two sides. Winning without particularly playing well is a very good habit to get into, but Yatton know they will have to physically improve their performance for next week's cup game at home to Axbridge Saxons.

Portishead Juniors

(League)

3-3

Yatton started brightly and dominated their illustrious opponents as chance after chance went begging through a combination of desperate defending and bad luck. However, Yatton struck twice in the space of 2 minutes their play deserved with the predatory Steve Jarosz grabbing both goals, the second of which was orchestrated magnificently by Jake Brown. 2 up at the break and completely dominating Yatton knew Portishead would be keen to make amends and they did within 5 minutes of the restart to reduce the lead to 1. However, man of the match Jarosz, pounced on a lose ball in the box to prod home to restore Yatton's 2 gaol advantage. Many opportunities were not taken and Yatton were left to rue their profligacy as Portishead nicked their 2nd with 10 minutes remaining. Portishead struck the cruellest blow as they equalised with less than a minute to deny Yatton a thoroughly warranted victory and indeed Portishead's celebrations said it all at the final whistle.

A lesson learnt for Yatton although they can be encouraged by there free flowing play which was a joy to behold.

Winscombe

(League)

2-3

Yatton's silky smooth football overcame a robust Winscombe side in an entertaining opening day encounter. Yatton started brightly and their impressive football imposed upon a one dimensional although well drilled Winscombe team. Yatton's pressure paid off as Jake Brown unleashed a thunderbolt free kick from 25 yards on 19 minutes. Less than a minute later, the lead was doubled as Harry Lampert's astute headed through ball saw Steve Jarosz score with aplomb to open his account for the club. Man of the match Seb Zornoza was as commanding as ever backed up by a well disciplined defensive unit. However, against the run of play, Winscombe reduced the arrears with 5 minutes of the half remaining as the right winger skillfully found the bottom corner past the despairing dive of Zornoza.

The second half started in the same vein as numerous chances were created and spurned. This gave Winscombe hope as their direct play started to put Yatton under pressure and was rewarded with an equaliser in the 43rd minute courtesy of a wonderfully flighted freekick. Yatton managed to contain the pressure and were thankful for Zornoza as he produced a stunning save to keep the score level. With time running out, a delightful through ball from George Noble sent Jarosz clear to flick the ball past the keeper for the winner that Yatton's overall play deserved.
